Kenny Dalglish scores the only goal as Liverpool win the European Cup again with a 1-0 win against Club Brugge at Wembley. It was Liverpool’s second consecutive European Cup triumph. Notable absentees in this final were David “Doc” Johnson, who strained his knee ligaments earlier in the season and Tommy Smith, who dropped a pick-axe on his foot and broke his toe. One minute after Steve Heighway came on to replace Jimmy Case, Dalglish received a pass from fellow Scot, Graeme Souness and won the match for Liverpool with a deft chip over the advancing Brugge goalkeeper. As a result of the victory, Liverpool became the first British team to win back-to-back European titles.
