I remember this game as well – Liverpool 2, Coventry 3. Peter Ndlovu, the Coventry striker, ripped Liverpool’s defence to shreds that night. Coventry were 2-0 up at half-time through two Ndlovu goals.

Jan Molby, in his last appearance for Liverpool before leaving to take over as manager of Swansea, pulled one back with a penalty on 77 minutes, only for the very impressive Peter Ndlovu put Coventry 3-1 up on 85 minutes. An own goal by a benevolent ex-Red, David Burrows in stoppage time was too little, too late for a well beaten Liverpool.
